Food is a central component to almost every holiday celebration. Gathering together with people you care about to share a meal is a huge part of the holidays—especially Thanksgiving.

Food at this time of year is more than just fueling our bodies. It’s a way to connect with those around us and find joy in the moments gathered together.

When November rolls around, Feeding America West Michigan puts together a special holiday food distribution.

Many of our staff members come together to serve our neighbors Thanksgiving-themed food items such as corn, beans, bread, potatoes, frozen turkeys and more!

“This distribution is an opportunity for our staff to provide food to the community at a time of high need,” said Abby LaLonde, Community Impact Manager. “Many of us appreciate the opportunity to come together as a team around the holidays to do this important work.”

Last year, over 300 neighbors were able to pick up numerous food items they could use to supplement a standard Thanksgiving meal.

This annual holiday event is more than just an opportunity for neighbors facing hunger to receive extra support during the holidays; it’s also a chance for food bank staff and community members to interact, and for neighbors who receive food assistance from the food bank’s partner food pantries and meal programs to see where much of the food those organizations provide comes from.
