Below are some exciting updates on the work we are doing to better serve our neighbors in need of food assistance!

Expanded Service in the Western U.P.

This past April, we began expanding our service in the western third of the Upper Peninsula—including Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties—in the following ways!

  • Creating partnerships with local hunger-relief programs to give them access to the food bank’s wide variety of food. We have partnered with nearly 30 existing food programs to date. We’re finalizing new partnerships each week!
  • Implementing depot deliveries, which means Feeding America West Michigan brings agencies’ “orders” to convenient locations for pickup. We plan to have depot stops in Baraga, Houghton/Hancock, Ontonagon, Ironwood, Watersmeet, Iron River and Crystal Falls.
  • Expanding the Mobile Food Pantry program by identifying partners for 2024.

Enhanced Resource Maps

We improved the resource map on the Find Food page of our website! The map (found at FeedWM.org/FindFood) now allows you to:

➡ Search for resources near you by using an address, city, ZIP code or county

➡ Find additional information—like the type of program, any requirements, hours and more—in the sidebar

➡ Filter the search results by program type or day(s) of the week

➡ See Gather 2 Grow sites on the map

In addition, we created a map to highlight programs exclusively serving seniors. It can be found on the same page under the Seniors tab.

We are so excited to have these enhanced resources available for anyone to use! If you or anyone you know needs food assistance, check out the maps to see what’s available nearest to you.
