Recently, Feeding America West Michigan was able to complete an assessment which updated our meal claim. This means we now know that with every $1 donated to the food bank, we are able to provide 15 nutritious meals to neighbors in need.
This new meal claim was determined by looking at data from the past several years about all of the food bank’s expenses and how many pounds of food we distribute, then converting those numbers to look at how many meals we provide with all of our resources accounted for.
As a food bank, we can stretch a dollar much further than if someone were to purchase food on their own. If we spend $10, we are able to provide 150 meals. How many meals’ worth of food do you think $10 would normally buy at the grocery store?
We provide food to those facing hunger across West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula by partnering with local food pantries and meal programs. Every dollar donated to the food bank allows us to provide food to each of those partners so that we can work together to end hunger.
