In high school, Mary Scott volunteered at a food bank local to Detroit, where she lives and works as Planet Fitness’ director of marketing.
“The staff there left a big impression on me and taught me the importance of showing compassion,” she recalled.
Ever since, she’s believed hunger relief is one of the most worthy causes.
When Planet Fitness re-opened its gyms last fall, they still couldn’t offer Pizza Mondays or Bagel Tuesdays to their members. Instead, the team decided to donate those funds to help neighbors facing hunger.
“With the financial implications of the pandemic, we learned that more people than ever before were needing food bank assistance,” Mary said. “It seemed natural to partner with an organization like Feeding America West Michigan, who was helping people right in the communities we serve.”
So far, Planet Fitness has donated enough funds to provide more than 80,000 meals’ worth of food to the neighbors we serve in West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.
“It means a lot, and I am grateful that I work for a company that sees the importance in giving back to our communities,” Mary said.
