COMSTOCK PARK, Mich., April 28, 2021 — Feeding America West Michigan’s Mobile Pantry program has received funding from The Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation to help provide food for hundreds of neighbors in need in Marquette County.
At each Mobile Pantry event sponsored by The Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation, 15,000 pounds of food — equivalent to 12,500 meals — will be distributed to community members in need. Mobile Pantries this size aim to serve 300 families. Each family will receive a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products and baked goods.
Attendees will not be asked to show identification or proof of income to receive food; however, they will be required to provide basic contact information and affirm their need for food. The amount of food an attendee receives will be based on household size. Because of the pandemic, all Mobile Pantries are providing drive-thru service at this time.
“Right now, many families in Marquette County need help putting food on the table. Cleveland-Cliffs’ donation is greatly appreciated and will mean a lot to our neighbors,” said the food bank’s President and CEO, Kenneth Estelle.
Feeding America West Michigan provides roughly 100 Mobile Pantries each month. A schedule of Mobile Pantries occurring in Marquette County can be found here. Details for these food distributions in all 40 counties the food bank serves can be found here.
