COMSTOCK PARK, Mich., Aug. 12, 2019 — Feeding America West Michigan received a $6,000 grant from The Darden Foundation to help keep its trucks fueled. Without adequate fuel, the food bank would struggle to operate. This grant will help the nonprofit continue to distribute food at its current capacity – upwards of 20 million pounds each year.
“The generous support of The Darden Foundation will enable us to continue filling the plates of neighbors in need by keeping our trucks on the road,” said Ken Estelle, president and CEO of Feeding America West Michigan. “Supporters like Darden are essential to the sustainability of our operations.”
The Darden Foundation aims to serve people facing hunger in communities where Darden restaurants – such as Olive Garden – are located.
“Our definition of service extends beyond the four walls of our restaurants and into the communities we serve,” said Stephanie Ghertner, director of The Darden Foundation.
1 in 8 neighbors in West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula face hunger. The generous support of organizations like The Darden Foundation ensure Feeding America West Michigan and its partner agencies can provide nutritious options to families who may otherwise have nowhere else to turn.
