COMSTOCK PARK, Mich., Aug. 12, 2019 — The Kraft Heinz Company Foundation granted Feeding America West Michigan $20,000 to purchase new pallet jacks, enabling the food bank to continue fulfilling its mission.
1 in 8 people in the food bank’s 40-county service area face hunger. Children are even more at risk: 1 in 7 are food insecure. Because of this grant, Feeding America West Michigan can continue to put food on their tables.
“Pallet jacks are one of the most essential tools used in our warehouse,” said Zach Saucier, Feeding America West Michigan’s director of operations. “They help us move the large quantities of food we receive and distribute. Without them, we would not be able to continue fighting hunger.”
Any unused funding will be spend on fuel to keep the nonprofit’s trucks on the road. Without adequate fuel, the food bank couldn’t continue distributing food at its current capacity – upwards of 20 million pounds each year.
