February 29, 2016 — It’s no secret: The United States has one of the highest rates of childhood obesity in the world. For many of our nation’s children, this goes hand-in-hand with food insecurity, because while cheap, empty calories are abundant, fresh fruits and vegetables and other whole foods are harder to come by.
