Volunteers from Consumers Energy
Volunteers will help Feeding America West Michigan package food and CFL light bulbs that will be distributed through over 100 local food pantries. Families receive a package of two CFLs, along with information about energy assistance and other energy-saving tips.
“We recognize that food insecurity doesn’t exist in a vacuum. When a family is struggling to put food on the table, they’re often in the midst of a larger crisis affecting their health, their education, their relationships, and their ability to pay utility bills,” said Feeding America West Michigan CEO Ken Estelle. “By providing free energy-efficient lighting to our clients, Consumers Energy is addressing one important aspect of the difficulties facing families in Western and Northern Michigan today.”
Media are invited to watch volunteers in action, talk to representatives from Consumers Energy and Feeding America West Michigan, and learn about energy savings and assistance that’s available to families heading into the winter heating season.
